Weekend Getaway to Hood Canal, WA

After several months of quarantine due to COVID-19, we had several family vacations cancel during this time. We were supposed to go to Seaside, OR for our Spring Break and Sweden/London for our Summer Vacation. I was also supposed to travel to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for a business conference in May which was also cancelled. Of course, it was disappointing to not be able to travel to the places we had planned, we decided that we needed a short break away from our home as soon as it was safe to do so.

Hood Canal, WA

I saw my friend advertise her beach house located directly on the Hood Canal here in Washington State. I wanted to book it for my birthday weekend but I waited too long and that weekend already got booked by the time I was ready. So, we went in early June for a long weekend and really enjoyed our stay. My husband was a bit skeptical at first since we were not able to do much more than what we could do sitting at home but it was nice and refreshing to be out of our house after being quarantined for several months. It really helped!

We packed up the car and drove about 2 hours to the Hood Canal. The house was located right on the water and came with a kayak so we spent a bit of time out on the water. It was cool in temperature so the highs were only in the low 60’s. We only had a brief sprinkle of rain on Saturday. Check out the cool photo I took of the rain coming in during our sunny afternoon.

Most of the time we just enjoyed the view and we played a bit of Monopoly too. My husband had fun playing with his drone as well.

Finally, to end our weekend, we took the suggestion of our host and took a drive to Lake Cushman and explored a little bit around the area.

All in all, it was a great weekend getaway despite our cancelled summer vacation plans. We are going to do another local trip at the end of the summer so perhaps I will share that experience too. How have your travel plans changed due to the pandemic?
