Get ready to experience the island breeze, where the living is easy. All you’ll need are a few pair of shorts, a swim suit, a sarong or two, flip flops, and a light wrap for evening and you are all set to enjoy the ambiance that is Maui.
This is just one option for exploring the Hawaiian islands. It depends on how much time you can spend and what interests you have for this destination. Day 1: Depart your city
Arrive in Maui and say “Aloha” to the lush scenery and the fragrant island smells as you head to your hotel to check in. You may choose to stay on Ka’anapali beach, a gorgeous stretch of beach located on the western shore of Maui, a couple miles north of the old whaling town of Lahaina. Enjoy a stroll on the beach and eat at one of Maui’s fabulous restaurants. Not sure which one to choose? Don’t worry, we will share all our favorites with you!
Day 2: Explore Lahaina
This would be a great day to explore the town of Lahaina and Whaler’s Village during the morning (while you’re in Lahaina be sure and stop at Ululani’s for their amazing and not to be missed shaved ice) and spend the afternoon lounging on the beach or by your pool. Finish the evening off with one of the many spectacular luaus that are available on the island.
Day 3: Haleakala
Get up super early and go to the top of Haleakala. Since Hawaii is several hours earlier than what you are used to, it is good to head to Haleakala early in your stay. Haleakala is an inactive volcano and a fabulous place to watch the sunrise. You can also head there during the day too. Just keep in mind that the early morning hours are regulated and require a reservation. We recommend booking a tour like this one to make sure you have everything covered.
Day 4: Road to Hana
Spend the day touring the road to Hana. This coastal road winds through a rainforest and you’ll see beautiful beaches, lava cliffs and waterfalls. As you return back to your hotel from the drive to Hana, stop and take a few minutes to watch the windsurfers at Hookipa Beach Park. Depending on what time you get back, enjoy a picnic dinner on the beach or a great restaurant. Don’t forget to have a fruity drink with an umbrella in it.
We also recommend that you take a guided tour for this activity as the driver doesn’t get to enjoy the drive as much as the passengers. If you want to drive yourself, we have a great app we recommend.
Day 5: Whale Watching
This would be a fun day to do some whale watching, either from the shore or take a whale watching tour. Peak times to see the whales are January through March. Eat dinner at Mama’s Fish House for some of the best fresh island fish.
Day 6: Molokini
Take a snorkeling cruise to Molokini. This crescent shaped top of an extinct volcano is a bird and marine sanctuary and is one of the top spots to snorkel in Hawaii. In addition to good snorkeling, taking the boat ride out to the crater offers great views of Maui.
Day 7: Day on Your Own
Today would be a good day to see “where the wind takes you” and just wing it. You might want to relax at your resort, hit the spa, take a jog on the beach, or whatever else strikes your fancy. You might even try going to Maui “Upcountry” to Paia, go to the lavender farm, goat farm or visit a distillery.
Day 8: Time to Go Home
Spend your last morning in paradise on the beach, poking around town or doing some last minute gift-buying. Say “Mahalo” (thank you) and depart for the mainland having experienced the beautiful island spirit and culture of Maui. Many flights leave late in the day so we have several ideas of things you can do before your flight home.
